Back with the second installment of my personal take on FALL and the ‘NON-TRENDS’ I’m into. In case you missed it, you can find PART ONE here in which we discuss ‘trends’ that we are turning into lifetime purchases; in turn making them ‘NON-TRENDS’. Long story short, read PART ONE : )
Let’s get started with the next few categories we’re investing in!
HEAD TO TOE GRAY
One word: YES. First & foremost, GRAY is a color we can ALL get behind. We already know that gray is considered a ‘new neutral’ and is a year round hue. BUT, wearing the color palette from top to bottom is a great way to wear what you already own, add in a little new, and all in a minimalistic way without feeling TOO TRENDY.
We’re seeing the look built primarily with knits, coats, trousers, and basics - all areas where we can repurpose seamlessly. I’d suggest to invest in a sweater and / or coat and mix in a few basics to achieve the overall look.
Now, the grays (or grey, whichever you prefer) do not all have to be the exact same shade. You can integrate dark gray, charcoal, heather gray, slate, etc. and there is truly no wrong answer.
Here are pieces that I feel would be a great addition to your wardrobe in general, as well as a full gray look:
Another huge POP of color this season is really not a color, but a VIBE. METALLICS - gold & silver (with an emphasis on silver) are making a come back in a big way.
If you know me, you know I won’t be diving into this category outside of accessories. I find a shoe or bag would be best. MAYBE a chrome pair of pants / skirt for holiday, but that is as far as it goes. I feel adding in a good metallic moment would really dress up any simple outfit.
I wouldn’t invest here, but on the same side - if you find something that is not made with the right materials, it can be a complete waste aka cheesy AF.
A category I am truly invested in to say the least! We are talking blazers, trousers, slacks, and vests galore. I personally find myself wearing either a blazer or trouser almost every other day of the week, therefore I have no hesitation on investing in pieces like so.
Matching ensembles are favored here, yet creating your own look is truly key.
If you haven’t already scored on a classic blazer that you can incorporate daily, now is the time to do so. BLACK (have this & wear on rotation) would be my first choice, yet a PATTERNED NEUTRAL blazer would do the trick (and pair well with a tee & denim or a LBD).
Those of you who have graduated onto full suits, opt for a pin striped set to change it up this season. I feel the pants would be useful in the spring with loafers & a WHITE TEE SHIRT BODYSUIT, and the blazer would be ever so chic with a crop tank & mini skirt.
I’ve gathered options that can work as a set if you are up to it, and individual pieces that are strong enough alone. P.S. If you go for pinstripes, I would aim for a navy one or a dark gray. Black can be harsh / unless the lines are microscopic.
Normally, with a trend so specific like this, I turn away. I find that it is too narrow of a wear and I most likely won’t get good use out of it. HOWEVER, it. is. so. flattering. So here we are. I would say that this is geared towards evenings, especially for holiday events and / or date nights, etc.
Although, the “HOURGLASS” umbrella could potentially work with anything that allows a cinched waist. Think belted dresses, high waisted pants with a crop top ratio, and so on. However, jackets for me, are the most dramatic here & look pretty damn good.
&&& last - the most important NON-TREND is ‘TRENDING’. Basics are more popular now than ever as the ‘quiet luxury’ theme is still strong and the need for quality, basic essentials is vast. Luckily, I know a guy : )
I say this often, yet I truly believe that the foundation of every good outfit starts with a basic staple piece. Fundamentally, in black or white, there are styles you need to have. Below I have linked fall favorites, that can transition from day to night effortlessly. While I could easily link the ENTIRE SITE, these are the starter pack essentials in my opinion that play back to all of these listed trends and vibes we are trying to achieve!
THE LONG SLEEVE BODYSUIT - ULTIMATE LAYERING TOOL, OR WEAR ALONE AND LET THE 1X1 RIB SNATCH YOU IN WHILE REMAINING COMFY AS A SECOND SKIN.
THE HENLY BODYSUIT- SATISFY THE GRAY ITCH WITH THIS PERFECT HENLEY. PAIR IT WITH DARK GRAY JEANS & BOOTS & A CHUNKY GRAY CARDIGAN.
THE TURTLENECK BODYSUIT - TRY THIS WITH A PAIR OF DARK WASH BLUE JEANS, BLACK LOAFERS, AND A RED SWEATER THROWN OVER WITH THE WHITE TURTLENECK POKING OUT AT THE NECK - CHICCCCCC!
THE TEE SHIRT MAXI - GET THAT HOURGLASS LOOK WITH A WAIST BELT, BLACK COAT & BLACK BOOTS.
THE SLIP DRESS - THROW ON A KNIT OVER THIS ICONIC 90’S STYLE SLIP WITH A LOAFER OR BOOTIE, DONE & DONE.
AND that concludes PART TWO of my FALL 2023 list! Hope it was helpful in directing your buys this season! Be back with a round of BOOTS, and DENIM I’m into!
