I’ve been having this mental debate for some time as trends are coming & going around sneaker culture. The constants I keep thinking are “Am I too old for these?”, “They look childish”, “These aren’t even my vibe!”.
Therefore, I took a deep dive into my closet & I realized that as my style continues to evolve, sneakers are a category I DO need to be picky with.
Sneakers should compliment your wardrobe - and if you are trying to build a timeless wardrobe (like myself), there are factors that need to be considered. Are these classic? Or are these too trendy? Does this color way work for me? Are they comfortable? Who knew sneakers where so complicated!
Therefore, here is a round up of everything I feel work for me (& you) currently, my age, and see myself putting into rotation for the foreseebale future.
ADIDAS SAMBA - not EVERY color way works IMO. The classic OG white / black combo is sold out everywhere, and OVERLY priced on resale sites - however, THESE are actually a better option that adds some understated color. While THESE are an aesthetic dream.
ADIDAS GAZELLE - SO similar to the Samba, but the suede reads elevated and THESE are giving Euro Chic. The yellow is not obnoxious and it plays into fall style effortlessly.
ASICS GEL KAYANO - probably the coolest of the bunch - they are comfortable, and act as the “elevated dad shoe” without being bulky and look cute on any foot. Try THESE with slacks, trust me! P.S. neutral color ways sell out fast, grab them while you can!
APL STREAMLINE - Comfortable & clean AF, THESE are my official errand shoe. My most worn sneaker that can be thrown in the wash to stay fresh. Sold.
SALOMON XT6 - okay - here me out. They feel very “street wear”, but they are transitional. They can go from city chic to hiking in one quick outfit change. Sleek, functional, and surprisingly easy to wear with a pair of denim and a chunky knit sweater. Try THESE for some color but the options are endless. However, they too are always sold out. I warned you.
&&& that’s that. Less is more, and we are all about putting everything we invest in to good use! Hope this helps! xx
